Why should I Journal?

Updated: May 2

In childhood while attending school one of the regular activities I recall doing was journaling. From a young age I remember writing down all the special things I did over the weekend and the people I shared the experiences with. It was simple and beautiful, a way to express ourselves while practicing our writing skills.

Over the years, the habit of journaling was lost. It began to feel elementary to describe the daily tasks as I got older. Instead, the focus turned to the art of writing through analysis of books and specific subjects instead of the creative freedom to put words on paper.

It was in my adulthood when the suggestion was made to start journaling again. Initially, I was very resistant to journal because it reminded me of my childhood and describing mundane daily activities. It wasn’t until I was properly explained the intention of why journaling is so relevant that I began to write.

The intention to journal is to put your thoughts and emotions on to paper instead of holding them inside you. It is the action of release, a way to let go of the energy that is stuck inside your body. By writing out your feelings, you release that energy on the paper and out to the universe. Giving it no opportunities to create any dis-ease. It is to allow your energy in motion (e-motion) to be free from your body.

Sometimes you are feeling off and you have no understanding why that is. If you start writing it out, the answers will reveal themselves. Without consciously thinking with your head and just allowing the automatic writing to begin, the truth emerges. Bringing clarity to the things that are going on in your life.

You can’t get it wrong. If you just talk about your day that is ok. It’s just to practice being in the habit of creating a healthy outlet.

Currently, I have 4 different journals that I am using. I have a different use for every journal. One is used for daily emotional conversations; another is used for meditation visions and dreams. Another is used for my studies and the workshops I attend, the last is for all my business ideas and coaching sessions. I have taken this tool and applied it to all area of my life. That is not necessary for everyone. Do what feels good to you.

You only need one journal to begin your writing journey. It’s an especially helpful tool when you feel overwhelmed in life. The more consistent you are with your journaling, the more you will notice a sense of balance. It is an easy activity with very little time invested. Every little step journaling is a step towards healing and better understanding yourself.
