Control

Anytime the word control comes up, I hear the song from Janet Jackson enter my mind. This has been by far one of the most challenging issues in my life. Truthfully, I never even knew how prevalent it has been in my life until recently. It all ties in nicely with perfectionism. If everything just looked like this, then it will be excellent.

Newsflash, that’s not how life works!

What I realized is I don’t have control over anything.

Things are going to happen that are not in your control around you. Every time you control your situation you close the door to another possible experience. There is no space for any new possibilities. When you are in a state of control you are forcing things to happen instead of allowing the magic to unfold. It’s the state of flow, allowing ease and grace to occur in life. Instead of being in a constant worry, stress, and pressured state, it’s a place of absolute surrender. The surrender that you don’t have to force things in life, if you are open to it, you will receive everything you need. Not the wants but what you need for your personal expansion.

I noticed that when I fall into a state of control, things become harder, and I am more resistant to the natural flow. When I am in a state of surrender, life opens to more adventures and the freedom to choose what feels good. It’s the reminder that the universe has our back if we are willing to allow it.

Control comes into play when you are doing something with the purpose of having a specific outcome. Making decisions without attaching an outcome can be difficult but, the reality is you will always be upset if you have an expectation that is not met. People who choose to surrender don’t get caught in the web of feeling like a failure. Instead, the moment becomes a learning experience. This is not an easy piece to master. Chances are you will have moments of flow and then it will show up again. That is normal and natural, what you will notice is the awareness of noticing it. This will allow you to shift your perspective more easily to surrender.

If you notice things are not going well in life, slow down, take a break and ask yourself if you are surrendering?
